This signature conference is desiged specifically with promoting the success of African Americans interested in excelling in technology leadership positions, advancing IT careers and creating mentorship opportunities for them.
This year's conference major themes include Blacks, Social Media & Technology Adoption, Bridging the digital divide, Infusing education with Technology: a 360/K-20 Approach, Women in Technology: Diversity and Equity, Technology Leadership: Innovation, Delivery, Articulation & Business Savvy, Technology Literacy: Bridging the achievement gap in urban schools, Gadgetry: The year in review Tablets, App Development & Open source, Healthcare Information Technology: An Equitable Trend, Certification Blitz: Merging business needs with viable licensure, Women in Technology, Diversity & Equity: The overlooked force of IT Professionals, Moving with The Cloud: Virtualization Trends and Data Solutions in 2011 & Beyond. NBITLO's annual technology conference and technology thought leaders' symposium was created as a proactive response to address the less than positive statistics relating to the number of African Americans represented in Information Technology positions and leadership. Blacks make up only less than 7% of all technology professionals and less than 3% of all technology Directors nationwide. Among the conference's many goals, it was designed to increase the chances of networking and mentorship, as well as technology leadership by emphasizing the importance of early strategic planning, understanding the highly competitive nature of the technology industry, and stressing the significance of academic preparedness, certification, and Technoprenuership as well as and standing out from tough competition. Another component of this conference is to inform technology professionals and future technology leaders about the academic rigors, demands, and expectations of professional education, and to impart strategies to help them prepare for the challenging technology workforce experience prior to actually beginning their information technology careers.
Additionally, the conference will connect technology students to actual Black technology leaders and professionals who will share their real-life experiences and potentially serve as role models and mentors.
