Here is the background before the question.
A person, which we will call Bob. Has a sony sound bar model
HT-CT150. Is has HDMI Repeater, 3d pass through, ARC, standby passthrough of audio and video...etc etc etc.
Bob recently got it in his head he wanted speakers in other rooms AS WELL as in wall speakers to 'compliment' his sound bar. Of course the sound bar has no hook ups for external speakers. Nor does it have any aux audio outputs to hook up say, an amplifier.
My solution was to install a yamaha RX-V471 reciever, setup all the speakers, then loop the hdmi through the sound bar to the tv. So you're going bluray/satelite box into yamaha, out from yamaha into sony sound bar, out from sound bar into tv. I thought this feasable because of this exerpt from yamaha's FAQ:
Quote: Yes, All Yamaha HDMI compatible AV receivers can pass through HDMI audio signals. The factory default option allows the receiver to send audio signals coming through the HDMI inputs to the speaker terminals of the receiver. (With the exception of the HTR-6050, HTR-6130,HTR-6230, RX-V363 and the RX-V365 which only support HDMI audio video pass through.) The HDMI inputs only pass the video signal to the TV monitor. The Other option can be selected in HDMI SET in the receivers Manual Setup Menu. This will enable the receiver to pass the audio signal straight through to the TV. Please refer to the owners manual for specific details regarding the HDMI settings.
However once everything was in place there was, as you can guess, no sound. The speakers were fabulous the sound bar was as silent as a monk. The video passed through the loop just find. So my question. Am I reaching for the stars? Is there a reciever capable of doing what I demand? Is the yamaha one of those recievers but I just missed a setting? Is 42 the real meaning of life? I appreciate all the assistance I can get in this monster of a project. Thank you everyone who reply with a helpful comment.
