Dish 002 Partial Signal Loss errors

A year or two ago I posted a thread on the 002 error I was getting.
http://www.highdefforum.com/dish-net...rebooting.html
It is happening again on both my VIP722K and VIP222K, and I was wondering if anyone has come up with a solution. The problem is intermittent and unrelated to the weather. The Partial Signal Loss error pops up, but I can always immediately get it back by just pressing the Guide button. Dish replaced the VIP722 a year or so ago, and that seemed to help for a while. But now it's back on both receivers. The Dish technician came out a couple of days ago and changed the LNB. He had previously changed all the connectors. I did a search for "Error 002," and several others have reported the same issue. One thing I have in common with some of the others is that I do have OTA adapters in both receivers. That's about the only component they have not replaced, and I am wondering if that might be the problem.

One other problem I have noticed is that sometimes (I think always when watching an OTA channel), I notice that the receiver is locked up. It is still receiving the local channel, but I cannot change channels or get the remote to do anything at all. Sometimes it will reboot on its own, but usually I have to do a manual reboot.

I'm an old retired I.T. director, and I'm pretty tolerant about intermittent problems. But this one has been going on for a couple of years on three different receivers.

Activision Shuts Down Radical Entertainment

Aye another dev bites the dust. This industry is imploding due to lack of originality, high dev costs and slumping sales.

Quote: Activision issued the following statement:

"Although we made a substantial investment in the Prototype IP, it did not find a broad commercial audience. Radical is a very talented team of developers, however, we have explored various options for the studio, including a potential sale of the business, and have made a difficult conclusion through the consultation process that the only remaining option is a significant reduction in staff. As such, some employees will remain working for Radical Entertainment supporting other existing Activision Publishing projects, but the studio will cease development of its own games going forward."

Buying Help - Which home speakers would you get?

Hey everyone! I have been out of the home audio game for about 9 years now, so this is all new to me again...

I was looking to pick up a nice 5.1 surround speaker set for my living room cinema/music area. It's a big space, with 15 foot ceiling, and the entire area is a "great room" that is open to the dining room and kitchen.

I'm torn because I have the chance to pick up a front L/R Floor Pair of speakers that I ready great reviews on:

Revel Concerta F-12's

...I can buy these new from a seller for $600 for the pair, which I thought was really good.

The flip side is that I would have to piece together other speakers, and I'm not sure I could afford more from the Concerta series.

Or, I have the chance to pick up a set of 5.1 Klipsch speakers:
(2 SF 2's, 1 RC 25 center, 2 RS 7 rears) for $300 total

...any thoughts on what to go for? Is it bad to mix front/center/rear speaker brands?

Thanks for your help!

(also, any thoughts on decent speaker sets under 1k total would be great to know...or even decent brands to track...I'm out of the game!) :)

Power on problem

I have a 2009 40 inch LCD Model number LN40853oP7NXZA. If I turn if off it is hard to turn back on. It will finally turn on after many attempts, like a power supply on a PC might do. I have been just leaving on and it will stay on without shutting off. The minute I do turn it off same problem again. I would like to resolve the problem if I could. I have called a few people in my area and nobody repairs these. If it is something as simple as a circuit board I could replace myself. Thanks for any help on this. Tom

Driver San Francisco is flipping awesome.

Driver San Francisco... anybody play this last year?
I'm an epic fan of the original, so I don't know how I missed this when it came out... and it is freaking spectacular. I don't get how this game didn't go over bigger.

The graphics aren't anything amazing for a driving game, but for a massive open-world where everything is persistent, they are pretty damn impressive.
By everything being persistent I mean, if you see a VW Beetle go around the corner, wait 5 minutes, and then chase after it, it will actually be 2 miles down that road.
If you leave a burnout, drive a 100 miles away and come back, it's still there.

It has everything that made the original game such a blast, from the car-chase-heavy missions to the film director mode, but this one's new mechanic of "shifting" makes this the single most interesting driving game I've ever played.

Any time you want, for as long as you want, you can "shift" your soul out of your body and hover above a living map of the city.
Things slow down to a crawl for everyone else, and then you can jump into the body of any other person driving any other vehicle in the game, anywhere on the map.
At first I just thought it was just a cop-out way of letting you switch between cars without needing any character animation, but it is actually so much more then that.
It's a game onto itself, and helps makes this one of the most memorable titles this gen for me.

It sound so simple, but it is such an amazingly fun gameplay concept.
Losing the race? Jump to a tractor-trailer in an oncoming lane and create a 40 car pile-up 20 miles up the road that blocks the finish line...
Being chased by cops? Shift into a Firetruck from a side road and T-bone the cop car from a blind corner. Etc...
There are basically no rules, you can do whatever you want, whenever you want.

The production quality of everything is just outstanding too. Gorgeous character models for the people, fantastic, truly funny writing, great sound design, great VO; everything is top notch.
THe overall story is kinda boring, but every body you shift into has his own little story going, and those are fantastic. If you jump into a sweet restored Camaro, you;ll hear the guy's g/f bitching about how much money he spend son his car. If you shift into a Dodge Neon, you're suddenly a teenage girl complaining on her cell phone. It's all just done so damn well.

On top of what a freaking blast it is to "Shift", somebody behind this game is my flipping soul mate, because this is the driving game I'm always bitching that I want.

Detailed car models, in-car views with unique Dash, great arcade style handling... and everything is set-up to encourage you to do crazy things and then watch the amazingly robust replay of your entire gameplay session in Director mode. So, every race essentially plays out like a Hollywood Car Chase, and then you watch the movie (if you like). You bust through crates and saw-horses, jump through windows, flip through the air, etc...

My favorite cars are 70-80s muscle, and my favorite driving game setting is on congested city streets. This is that *1000, and it done well. Damn well. It is also 95% ALL 70s and 80s Muscle Cars!! Wooo! I already have 4 different Camaros in my garage. Four! I love this game.

It's open world like Midtown Madness or Midnight Club racing, but there's no frustration of missing a turn and losing the race, because you can pause everything at any time and look around or change things to your need. Hell, you could shift out of your car, hover over a tree for ten minutes watching the birds, then flip back into your car as it crosses the finish line and still win the race. The game doesn't care. It's like your god in a driving game, set in the GTA world. Just fantastic. So it becomes more of a fast-action puzzle game then a driving/racing title, and it's a blast.

There is also a heavy heavy TV/Movie influence to it, and almost every car on the road is something you saw in a show or movie.
Earlier I shifted into a Delorean, and when it got up to 88 it started glowing and I got some trohpy named after BttF. Hell, you can drive Eric Foreman's Vista Cruiser if you like...

The only complaints I have are that there's a very strange filter on the game to make it look dated, and it really hurts the PQ. The whole time I keep wanting to adjust the contrast, and you can't. That and this game suports nothing. No 3D, no Steering Wheels, nada. And that sucks, becuase I would LOVE to play this with my DFGT.

Know what the best part is? I got the game for $12 in a clearance bin. I'd have paid full price for this in a minute if I'd known it existed. Great game. I think I have a new GOTY for 2011.

It's a real shame this isn't more well known, becuase it totally redeems the Driver franchise. Best one since 1, which really isn't saying much, but it's definitely true.

Driver San Francisco is flipping awesome.

OT: On Sale - 15" MacBook Pro (Signature *Required* Upon Delivery! Lol)

Heaven forbid me try to sell something on here after Mase not getting the 580 because the Post Office sucks! :p

No, seriously, ask Mase...I'm not trying to rip anyone off.

So I'm gonna buy a new MacBook Pro, and have no use for my 15" 2.53 GHz Intel Duo model. It's not the newest, but it still runs like a champ. All bells and whistles included...laptop is CNC machined out of a single piece of aluminum, etched-glass Apple trackpad, latest version of OS X, etc...

I fucking hate eBay and would love to avoid it, hence this thread.

eBay sells them for ~$700, so if any of you guys want it, you can have it for $500. :)

Worlds Most Expensive Car? $35 Million

Quote: June 1, 2012

A 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO made for race driver Stirling Moss has become the world’s most expensive car, selling in a private transaction last month for $35 million.

The distinctive apple-green Ferrari, one of 39 GTOs produced from 1962 to 1964, is listed among May’s high-end sales at anamera.com, a website for classic car dealers. Two specialist traders last night independently confirmed the transaction and price to Bloomberg News.

The car was sold within the last two weeks by the Dutch-born businessman Eric Heerema, owner of the Nyetimber vineyard in Sussex, southern England. The buyer is U.S. based classic car collector Craig McCaw, the dealers said. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-0...5-million.html

Wall Mount Measurement Question

OK what the heck does 26.9 measure out too ?

I did the typical jump the gun and ordered the mount by the big print
Universal Mount for 32-65 in TV's

Small print says 26.9 Wide and 15.75 Tall.

Center hole to hole is 26 7/8 X 11 7/8

If I open the box , they won't take it back

So any educated guess's on what 26.9 ='s

On Topic Video Game Thread

I am getting sick of my own OT blogging posts, I want to talk about video games like I am supposed to here anyway!

First off, video game physics...I actually did talk to a physicist about it. He is now suggesting that it would be a good REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates). One physics undergrad to rate the physics, and one computer science undergrad to edit the footage of the games.

Footage? Can I make that? I only know how to take Steam screenshots, how in the hell can I make footage?

Also, Diablo...that game sure is addictive. I am almost able to play it now, I am in Nightmare mode. I am leveling up my blacksmith, hopefully I no longer have to buy shit from the dumbass Auction House.

Anyone else tried Max Payne 3 PC? A 680 can max it. I have a bookmark somewhere about what settings you can use to still get 60 fps on a 580. The game is also very good, although a bit too difficult. That's OK though, I am getting sick of easy "you have a pulse, congratulations, you win" games anyway.

What happened at E3 with Nintendo? When do I get my 1080p Zelda game that does not require Dolphin magic?!?

Anything about video games, nothing about RL. Video games are pretty fucking fun. :gamer

Lost some HD channels

Last night the free HBO preview became available. Could only get channel 501 HD and another one or two HBO channels. Wife had all the channels in SD in the bedroom. After 3 different types of resets ( button, sat cable&power disconnect and ditto with card removal) Called DTV and after 35 minutes I went back and changed my settings to duplicate channels in SD so now I get all channels in SD and some in HD.
She said a tech will have to come out and it will cost.
I would like to troubleshoot myself. This morning I also noticed some other non pay channels out in HD. Same code 771 and searching for signal on those channels as the code for the HD pay channels.
You think I might need a new LNB set for the dish or if only a head, how can I figure out which one to keep the cost down?
Any advice I would greatly appreciate.
Thank you, Mike in AZ.

Blu-ray pricing thread

The purpose of this thread is to keep an at a glance account of prevailing pricing at the top retailers (mainly Walmart, Best Buy, Amazon and Target) of the various SKUs versions of the top titles of each week. The idea is to see what effect (if any) the price differences between the DVD, BD-only, BD combo and the 3D BD, has on BD market share and 3D market share.

The HMM pricing pics of the top titles and their prices of the various version at the top sites will be the key info to use, plus any other info would be welcome (whether pics or otherwise). I'll reserve the first several posts in this thread in order to post historical data in reverse chronological order at the top, along with a summary table to see the price comparisons at a glance.

Maybe Kosty has some back weeks stashed somewhere, but here's the latest weeks though to get started.

Sony Bravia horizontal lines

I have a Sony Bravia KDL-52W4100 that I bought from a friend at work. He loved the TV but wanted to upgrade to a Sony Bravia 3D. The TV as been wonderful since I bought it about two months ago, but about two weeks ago I got two horizontal lines on it. On the lower portion of the screen. The are parallel with one another and the exact same length, 6" long. They are pretty much white, but can take on the color behind them, just lighter. The lighter the background, the brighter they become. The darker they are, the harder they are to see. When it is black, you cannot see them at all.

It shows these lines no matter what source I'm watching. Cable, Xbox or my Sony receiver.

It started off with just the two, but has grown to 18, or 9 pairs, in all. It now looks like I have two "ladders" going down the sides of my screen. Or at least the rungs of two ladders. The TV is no longer under warranty. The TV has been taken very good care of, with less than average use. This guy babys everything he owns. Keeps receipts of everything. I know it's not because of poor upkeep.

I'm worried it's just bad timing for me. And the set was just due. Even if I have to spend a few hundreds dollars, I'm okay with that. I just don't want to hear that I'm effed, and there is nothing I can do.

I have included some pictures in case my description hasn't been detailed enough. ANY help, ANYONE might be able to give me is greatly appreciated in advance. And if there are any questions anyone has that might help make my situation more clear, no pun intended, please ask. I will answer anything that could help me figure out what's going on. Thank you all again for your time.

680 Benching Results

Card is installed system is clean and I ran some benches. It looks like the core is topping out at 1200mhz. The stock clock says 1080 with a boost clock of 1150 on the EVGA Specs sheet. So I'll take 1200 and call it good with zero tinkering.

Here is a quote from my last set of OC's and tests in 2011. Then I will post the new set from today. The only difference is the Video Card.

Quote: GPU - GTX580 EVGA 1.5gb
CPU - I5 2500K SandyBridge Stock 3.3ghz

Started at stock CPU and GPU score 6300

Moved CPU to 3.5ghz GPU Stock score 6466

CPU 3.5ghz GPU 850(1700),2025(mem) - Score 6788

CPU 3.5ghz GPU 875, 2050 mem - score 6881

At this point I hit a GPU wall, at 885 with 2050 mem the driver would start crashing the second I loaded a test.

Leaving those settings I then started bumping the CPU temps never went over 53c

3.8ghz - Score 6950

3.9ghz - Score 6987

At this point I stopped, I'm hesitant to go over 4ghz with stock cooling. The GPU fan revs up to about 60% and hits temps as high as 70 at full load. I am going to run some more stress tests.
With the I5 still at 4.1 ghz here are the results of the same exact set of 3DMark tests.

P9409

I will run some games later and see what kind of frame rates I can pull. Overall the card seems to hit no greater than 70c under load and is running very stable. I'm going to let precision OC run for a while to stress it now.

Questions

Been a Dish customer for 9 years and thinking about making a change. Talked to a Direct CR but he couldn't answer these questions. I have the external hard drive with Dish with many of my shows. Can these be transferred to the HMC? Is there a dedicated 50's music station with Direct? Can I mirror the HMC or HD receiver from my family room to my master bedroom. I now do that with the 622 so I can get HD on both sets.

Thanks for the help.

on demand

Ok, feel like I'm a little behind with the technology but decided to purchase a DIRECTV DECA BROADBAND ADAPTER (ETHERNET ADAPTER) NEW on eBay and connected it to my H21-100 receiver. Followed the instruction on the Directv website and problem was the receiver never seemed to recognize the adapter and prompt me to set up the network. It's like the receiver doesn't know anything is plugged into it. The green power light on the adapter is solid and the clink light is blinking yellow. Can someone help me out?

I have a Philips 55" LCD, 240 HZ purchased at Sams. We are having trouble with the HDMI handoff from FIOS so I went to the Philips website to download the update to a USB. OT: External HD suggestions

What would you guys suggest for an external HD for backup/storage between a 2.5 and a 3.5" drive? Ask and You Shall RECEIVE

Quote: Quoting Myself in March:

It will probably soon be moot because Verizon bumped up my monthly cost by $40 and in January it will go up another $25 to about $160-$170, too much, so I will switch to Time Warner's Triple play and try to get a 2 year deal. I have the TW cable wire sticking out through my wall.
So I called in April and was all set to holler about a free MR-DVR "for life" that they keep advertising (I was paying $20 for the DVR since January,) about switching to Time Warner, about the high escalating cost of FIOS, etc. I had worked myself into an apoplectic frenzy.
But she said basically "Calm down, we will give you what you want." You could have knocked me over with a feather.

So they rolled me back to $89.95 for Extreme TV with 25/25 Internet and digital phone + MR-DVR "free for life" + free SHOWTIME all for 2 years (but with a contract...fine, I'm not going anywhere soon.) My only addition is a $6 STB for the bedroom.
With taxes and fees the total is under $110 for the next 2 years. And best of all, they actually got the billing CORRECT two months running...THAT surprised me.:eyecrazy

So the moral is You Won't Get It If You Don't Ask.

Viera Link with Panasonic Plasma and Blu-Ray Home Theater

Hey everyone, new here to the forum :) Here's the issue at hand.

Television: TH-C46FD18 (TH-46PZ80U)
HT System: SA-BTT350

Since the front speakers of my dad's old Pro Logic home theater system are not outputting sound anymore, I hooked up my brother's Blu-ray HT system to the TV via HDMI.

HDMI 1: PS3
HDMI 2: SA-BTT350
Video 1: Comcast cable box
Video 2: Wii

The idea was to bypass the old receiver and just use the HT System for audio out using Viera Link.
I plugged everything into the TV and set up Viera Link on both the HT System and the TV. Absolutely no sound.

After playing around with the source selector and options on both the TV and HT System (ARC) I gave up and hooked up RCA cables from the TV to the HT System and am using just the AUX input for sound.

I was wondering if there is a way to actually get Viera Link to work to take all the audio input from the TV and output it to the HT System via a single HDMI cable. Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys!

Coinstar is kicking Netflix's butt

Interesting take on the two companies, and the analysis certainly echos what many of us have stated. The disc is not dead yet :)

I will say it again. I think Netflix made a huge mistake when started to push streaming at the expense of their traditional disc business and were pretty arrogant in doing so along the way.

I suspect some of that Coinstar growth is directly attributed to Netlflix disc customers dropping their plan and renting more at Redbox. I am one of them.

http://buzz.money.cnn.com/2012/06/15...utt/?iid=HP_LN
Quote: You can stream videos on your tablet. But not coffee. That's one reason why Coinstar may be a better investment than Netflix.

Shares of Netflix (NFLX) got off to a smoking start this year after a nightmarish 2011. But like the rest of the market (and especially momentum stocks), Netflix has come crashing back to Earth. The stock is now actually down almost 10% in 2012. Do investors think that the video market is dead?

Not necessarily.

Take a look at Coinstar (CSTR). The owner of the bargain DVD rental kiosk service Redbox is having a banner year. Shares are up nearly 40%. What gives? Well, I think one reason is that Coinstar, which also operates its namesake coin counting machines in mass market retailers, may be benefiting from the weakness in the economy.

A monthly subscription for Netflix could be the type of thing you cut if you're worried about job stability, Europe's financial woes and stock market volatility. But the occasional "splurge" on a movie for $1.20? That's still doable.

"Redbox is more compeitive if you only watch a DVD a week. The vast majority of people watch fewer than 3 movies a month," said Michael Pachter, an analyst with Wedbush Securities in Los Angeles. "There is a reason Wal-Mart exists. People like the value proposition. And that's the same reason why Redbox exists."

There's also the fact that Coinstar is a more diverse company than Netflix. The company is even branching out into the coffee business. Earlier this month, Coinstar announced a deal with caffeine king Starbucks (SBUX) to offer Starbucks' Seattle Best Coffee in new Rubi kiosks in supermarkets and grocery stores. Coinstar's shares are up about 6% since the Starbucks news.

Coinstar and Redbox often get mocked for being so old-school, but not everybody wants to watch movies streaming on their smartphomes or iPad. Plus: Sometimes consumers actually have to leave their homes to shop for things. (Three cheers for analog retail! You go, Luddites!)

Still, it's not as if Coinstar risks being lost in the online video revolution. Redbox inked a streaming/DVD joint venture with telecom giant Verizon (VZ) in February. The service is set to launch in the second half of the year.

Netflix, on the other hand, continues to befuddle investors. While the worst appears to be over in terms of subscriber defections following last year's decision to charge people separately for DVDs and streaming and the ill-fated and short-lived decision to rebrand the DVD business Qwikster, Netflix is still a company faced with many challenges.

The company is spending a lot to license content from the major movie studios. It's now a content producer as well, with new shows like Kevin Spacey's "House of Cards" and the eagerly awaited revival of "Arrested Development." Netflix is also expanding aggressively overseas. These may all be smart long-term moves, but they are hurting earnings now.

"Netflix has a lack of visibility regarding international expansion. When will the losses narrow and margins improve?" said Steve Frankel, analyst with Dougherty & Company in Boston. "Netflix may also double down on more new markets."

Analysts now expect Netflix to eke out a tiny profit this year, after earlier projections of a full-year loss. But profit forecasts for 2013 have steadily come down over the past few months. That's not good. What's more, Netflix's revenues are no longer growing in the manner befitting a true go-go momentum stock. Analysts are predicting rather pedestrian sales growth of 13% this year and 15% in 2013.

Compare that with Coinstar. Its sales growth is expected to top 23% this year and earnings are expected to surge 35%. Revenues are only expected to increase 12% next year, while profits are forecast to rise only 10%. Wall Street analysts have been ratcheting up their Coinstar earnings projections -- a sharp contrast with how they're viewing Netflix.

And then there's valuation, which ultimately is what really matters. Netflix, despite its recent stumbles, still trades at 30 times 2013 earnings estimates. Coinstar, even after its big spike this year, is valued at just 12 times next year's profit targets.

Pachter, who has a "buy" rating on Coinstar and a "sell" on Netflix, maintains that Netflix is still overpriced, given that it faces so much competition in streaming video. In addition to the looming Verizon/Coinstar joint venture, companies like Amazon (AMZN) and Hulu, the online video firm co-owned by media giants News Corp. (NWSA), Walt Disney (DIS) and Comcast (CMCSA), are gunning for Netflix's streaming subscribers.

Finally, Pachter thinks that the DVD -- like the old man in Monty Python's Holy Grail -- is not dead yet. That's good news for Coinstar and not so much for Netflix.

"The movie studios are greedy pigs who want to sell their content to everybody. They would rather have more competition," Pachter said."Netflix is under a long-term assault, and DVDs are not going to go way for many years."
Coinstar is kicking Netflix's butt

So my upgrade went VERY WELL.... except I was working in Quicken for a few hours and went to backup my work and all of a sudden my system stopped responding.

Reboot Windows Disk, Windows Repair, NOTHING

So after a LOT of effort and hours, I determined my SSD simply died. I mean I did everything. Finally went to microcenter and grabbed a 120gb Intel 520 SSD and now windows is working perfectly. Such a pain in the ass. I guess OCZ Agility 2's only have a 2 year lifespan? Because I'm seeing a A LOT of posts about them failing in the EXACT SAME MANNER as what happened to me. Such a crock of shit. oh well the Intel was about 175 bucks, but at least it has top top top ratings. And it's a 6.0gb/s drive. So it's twice as fast in theory. /blah

I got a great 42" plasma last year (Panny ST30).
Now someone I know wants the same or similar TV, but not bigger.
The problem is it seems 50" is the new minimum plasma!
Anyone know why this happened or how to find any that may still be on sale? I looked around and they seem to be nonexistent.

Help me decide on a TV part 2

As some of you know, I had to leave the Samsung plasma TV behind when I moved to Homer, Alaska from Cincinnati, OH. I now need a new TV. The critical thing here is that I will need to drive 5 hours to Anchorage to pick up a TV since the Walmart in Kenei(2 hours away) does not have anything that interests me.

I am trying to decide between a Vizio 32/37 inch 1080p LED 120hz display or the same Samsung 43 inch 720p plasma like the one I left behind in Cincinnati. With the next gen consoles right around the corner, I kind of feel like I really need a 1080p TV but I also really love how plasmas look so much more natural. My biggest problem is that Samsung no longer makes their 43 inch 1080p plasma as the smallest plasma now available on the market is a 51 inch. That is way too big for my apartment and wouldn't even fit in my Lincoln for the 5 hour drive.

installer came to house, i was so excited to get the hr-34,
NO GO, trees were in the way. he said he could install on the very top peak of the roof and i said no thanks(scared of wind,ect..).
so i figured that was that, i was stuck with my time warner box, and
then he told me to get the TIVO xl4, and i would have exactly what i
was looking for. so, i ordered the tivo box, ($349 amazon), i get 4 tuners, 2TB hard drive, and all the cool TIVO features, plus i get the dependability and awesome service of time warner. I had no idea about
this TIVO box, so that is the end of my journey with directv, but i still think that hr-34 sounds great.

RF Remote question

Are / Can Be the RF remotes dedicated to each perspective receiver?
- We currently have one receiver setup in a closet and operated via RF.
- I'm moving a receiver for the kitchen TV to inside the a wall cabinet and want to operate via RF if I can.
- I took the existing RF remote for the other TV into the kitchen and and it's in range to operate the TV in the office.

I don't want to be in conflict between the kitchen TV and office TV.
Can you dedicate each remote to each receiver in RF?
If not, I can also look at IR remote eyes or whatever they're called.

OTA antenna

We currently have cable internet and TV. If we were to switch to an OTA antenna, could we connect the antenna to the existing RG6 cable used in the house and get good reception on all TV's? We currently have 4 tv's connected to cable. If we switched, 3 TV's would use an outdoor antenna. The 4th TV would have an indoor antenna attached. I presume the cable internet and OTA signals would not work on the same cableing. The internet would have to be a separate cable.

Connecting a VCR

Thanks to this forum, problems in a recent earlier post with volume control were all answered, as well as all the audio hook-ups. Picture and sound are great!

I neglected to play my VCR at the time. So now I get audio which I connected from the VCR to the Yamaha Surround, but don't get any video signal.

My cable runs into the Cablevision DVR, out to the VCR and into the Sony 46EX640 TV. Shouldn't the TV pick up the video signal via this cable connection?

I tried running a single cable (yellow out from VCR to yellow in on TV) . This side input is for VCR's Game Systems, and Camcorders and it recognizes the video input but it displays (no signal).

What am I missing here?

Diablo III runs great...

I wasn't sure if Diablo III would run half decent on my PC (4-5 years old I think), but gave it a try. Well I was kinda shocked because after loading it, it ran very smooth. So smooth that I bumped up the rez to 2560x1600. Oh and I just bought a new monitor , a Dell Ultrasharp (U3011), it's awesome. I was looking to buy the 27" but when I was online there was a special and the 30" was the same price. Anyways I think my video card saved me, a 8800GTX. I only have an Intel dual core 6600 and 4 gigs of ram. So it was a pleasant surprise because I thought I'd have to upgrade.

NEED HDTV help please

Hello,

I am in the market for a new hdtv, and need some help. I recently sold my old vizio 32" 720p tv from 2009ish. I liked it, but would have really liked a bit better of a picture and a bigger size.

I want my next tv to have the following requirements:
1. Under $450 before tax
2. Bigger than 32"
3. 1080p
4. Good picture quality and gaming support (xbox 360)

I will have this tv in my bedroom and will use it mainly for netflix and playing video games on my xbox 360.

Any suggestions, help, etc. would be greatly appreciated!

Figured out my cable vs direct dilema

ok, here was my major problem. 2 story house/ first floor is my main
bigscreen hd t.v., 2nd story has 4 bedrooms running rg 59 and it would be a BITCH to switch it out, but there is only t.v.'s in two of the rooms and they are just guest rooms that my mom stays in twice a year.
so here is what i am doing: hr-34 for my main t.v.(really the only t.v. that gets watched) and the directv 2 year deal is awesome!!
then i will keep time warner basic(27 channels of sd) thru the entire house(NO RECIEVERS NEEDED) plus my road runner. the total cost for that is $71.00/month. so i get the BEST dvr in my main room, super fast internet and basic cable thru the entire house all for a great price.
and i did include the protection plan for directv.
well, how does this sound to you guys, please give me any advice or help, thanks.

How do you delete programs in Windows 7?

Macs are simple. Rarely does a program use an uninstaller. Adobe stuff is the only one I can think of. You just drag it to the trash and it's gone with the exception of .plist preference files. And those are so tiny, like 100-500 kb, they're inconsequential to storage space. Plus, if you reinstall the app later, your preferences are still there for it.

I know there's the add/remove programs thingy, but since I'm using Steam, I know I'm supposed to use "Delete Local Content" to uninstall games I bought or activated through Steam.

But what about the other ones? Should I be using Add/Remove Programs? Should I be looking in their folders for an uninstaller? Where are these usually located?

Ethernet splitter...

Yesterday I removed my ethernet cable from my DTV box in order to plug it into my Apple TV in hopes of jacking up the performance of the ATV. So far I can say one way or the other that it helped.

Regardless, my DTV box is no longer connected to the internet. I think the only thing I've lost is OnDemand TV which I do want occasionally. I don't want to get into the business of switching the ethernet cable back and forth.

So I'm wondering how one of these simple ethernet splitters would work in this situation? I see them on eBay for around $2 or so. Would one of these splitters actually feed both my DTV and my ATV without any problems? Anyone else running one of these ethernet splitters in a similar situation?

looking for some advice on my new TV

Good morning. I am in the market to replace my currect tv. What I have is a samsung 58" plasma and I am going bigger. I want to get into the 60"+ range. Budget is $1800 total including shipping/tax. I don't mind shipping it in or picking it locally. One of my requirements for the TV is the pic in pic mod. I was very disappointed with my Samsung when I would use pic n pic and it would limit what inputs i could view in the small pic window. At times I am watching TV and want the pic n pic on so i can view one of my outside cameras(watching for the mail,FedEx, etc) and the Samsung i have didn't let me do that. I do have Ethernet close by but I don't know what i would need it for on the TV. We do have a WII but it is just for kids games for my 4 year old. less than a couple of hours a week so not a deciding factor on TV choice. The 3D option does interest me but don't know a whole lot about it. I have been seeing TVs with WiFi option but don't know anything about what it actually gives you. The tv is mounted in front of my tv so from my nose to the front of the screen is about 10 feet. The local sams has two 65" which are interesting...vizio M3D650SV and a panasonic Model: TC-P65ST30 ...I am open to any of the brands...just want to get some guidance as to what I should be looking for. thanks

Samsung Issue

Hello All,

I purchased a 55" 1080 120 LED Samsung last week. Today I have noticed that when I turn to certain channels the following message appears in the upper right hand corner of the screen:

HDMI/DVI No Time Information and below that are some what I guess are resolution number (ex. 720x1280 etc.). I called Samsung and all we were able to figure out was how to actually put a time in for the TV. So now I still get the message but with the correct time displayed.

I would like for eliminate this message altogether so that it never comes up. Can anyone help? Has anyone had this problem? Does any of this make any sense to anyone?

Thanks

Diablo MP Is Fun As Hell

marcallo convinced me to try MP Diablo now that I beat the plot, and I found a way to make it insanely fun.

I had a blast doing it today and will probably do it almost all summer long, except my "multiplayer" Diablo is probably a bit different than what marcallo does.

I talk to my team-mates. With my voice. Because they are sitting beside me in the same room. Trying to type shit is for the birds, but having your team sitting beside you is fantastic!

Also the crazy super-high-resolution monitors and absurdly fast internet connection is icing on the cake. I am probably gonna spend most of my summer vacation playing like this. :D :D

Batman AC: Harley's Revenge is kinda a let down...

Without giving anything away, and keep in mind I love Batman, and I love this game... this was still pretty disappointing.

It's really short for what they are charging, it's a throw-away story that adds nothing to the ending of the AC story-line, you play strictly as Robin inside a couple of buildings you've already been in, and then it switches to Batman for the in-between segments, which I suspect is just their way of letting you into AC to traverse to the next building...

Why is it impossible to let us play as the other heroes in the city proper? Is there some game-breaking section of the city that be un-traversable without Batman's specific gadget-set?
:banghead::banghead::banghead: Why is this so hard to deliver?...

I don't believe I see anything else new showing up here either, except some concept art/figures... No new skins, no new challenge maps, nothing.

So yeah, while the story was fine, and the gameplay is just as awesome as ever... I got less then two hours of content for $10, and apart from Harley having a new skin, everything else was recycled. That's not great man... I got a hell of a lot more out content of the other DLC packs they already released and if IRC, I don't think any of them were anywhere near this expensive...

If this is an expansion pack, I'm not all that excited about it... If it's an actual sequel or improvement on what they started with, I'll start doing cartwheels now. I loved the battle system (in advanced mode), and I loved the immersion level, but something about the game started to bore me about 2/3 of the way through...

I'd think it was too early for any kind of meaningful sequel to it, but the first game didn't review all that well either, so you'd have to think they'd be addressing some of those issues... Right?

Regardless though, the first e3 news that actually caught my attention so far.

Vertical picture Adjustment 50a2000

Hello folks !

New hear, and im here cause i think your the right people ask a TV question.

I have owned a Sony KDS-50A2000, for quite a few years now.
The optical block needed replacing about 3 years back.

I was able to get it rebuilt for a good price, by a trustworthy person.
When i installed it and turned it on it looked great...except the vertical position of the picture was about 1.5 inches low.

I have searched the webs for any way of repairing this and have come up empty handed.

Anyone with experience in this matter, able to give me some pointers ?

Thanks in advance !

New DMC (Devil May Cry) E3 Trailer

OK, I'm REALLY digging the direction this is going in. I wasn't so sure at first. It's really reminding me of what it would look like if Tomonobu Itagaki (Ninja Gaiden fame) met with Hideki Kamiya and the two of them had a beautiful demon filled baby.

And I'm sorry, but there's a piece at about :55 where a truck that's on fire drives into a building... and the people come running out and they're on fire, and the building then is on fire.... I'm sorry, but between the maniac laugh of the driver and then the people running out of the house, it made me chuckle.

Samsung Universal Remote

I just bought a new Samsung LED HDTV, and it came with an offer for a free Universal Remote for the TV. The pictures is shows looks the exact same as the remote that can in the box with the TV. Anyone bought a Samsung recently and know if there is a difference, or is this just an offer to get a free backup remote?

Also, assuming the remote I have is the Samsung Universal, I also have a Comcast cable box. Is there a way to consolidate these remotes so I only have to use one? As it is right now, I have to use the Comcast remote to change the channels, set recording, etc, and the TV remote to change volumes, mute, etc. Thanks for the help guys!

Sanyo Vizon DP32647

My grandfather's sanyo stopped working. I checked voltage to the cord on both ends, good. Ive searched every thread on every forum available. The back is removed . Im looking at the yellow board with the warning about replacing with the same fuse. The problem Im having is that I cannot find the fuse anywhere, atleast not the standard glass or paper wrapped fuse that you can remove with needle nose. Is there a different type of fuse? If anyone can help me with this please do. He is a 90 yr old ww2 vet, 82nd airborne railsplitter. God bless in any case.

Powerlight blinks 8 times on Panasonic PT-50DL-54

The powerlight blinks red 8 times after lamp goes out. Does that 8 times mean anything? I do not have a service manual, can anyone help?
I disconnect the TV from the outlet wait a while and replug it and switch it on and it's OK for an undetermine period, can be 2 hrs, 2 days, weeks or months.
It sometimes also shuts down and blinks green like for the normal cooling period and restarts by itself.
It's the 3rd lamp and it has about 3000 hrs but it's been doing this since it had 30 or so days, less frequent then as I recall but not much.
By the way, this one is a phillips for what it's worth.
Please respond
P.S. As for the original lamp, apparently they are not available any more, my brother inlaw just tried tobuy one a couple of weeks ago and was told by the dealer "no stock anywhere". He had to get an after market one purchased by the dealer. I coud not get the make.
Thanks

Do I need a new Receiver?

I have a question that I was not sure whether it belongs under players or receivers, but here it goes. I recently bought a Sony BDP-s390 blu ray player. I have a pretty old Sony Receiver, the STR-k670p, that was part of a home theater system i bought roughly 5-7 years ago. There are no HDMI ports on the receiver, so my current set up is blu ray player to the TV, optical from the TV to the receiver to get the audio. However, what I am noticing is that when playing blu rays, they are pretty quiet and I have to crank the volume alot to hear stuff that isn't loud action scenes. I am confused because my xbox, computer, etc. are really loud on a low volume. I then tried leaving the blu ray player hooked up to the TV and hooked up the orange coaxial cable from the blu ray player to the receiver. That seemed to help the audio become louder, but still not quite where I feel it should be. So this is my question: Is my receiver too old/does it not have the correct decoders? Would buying an updated receiver fix this problem? If so, I would love some recommendations for some affordable receivers that go great with blu ray but also have alot of red/white inputs for record players and other assorted gear I use.

DirecTV to PC

I just installed the DirecTV to PC app this week and it's really a nice feature. I record everything anyway so I can access what I need.

I normally don't need it but I only have one DVR and my daughter and grandchildren are visiting so I turned the HR34 over to them. The PC app is working great and responds perfectly to a Media Center remote.

It's nice to be able to accomodate visitors and not have to pay for a lot of extra receivers.

HD to SD

OK, as I am an idiot when it comes to technology this will most likely be the stupidest inquiry in the history of this forum.

I just recently upgraded to an HD tv in tandem with an upgrade in my Directv to HD. My daughter does not like how the HD looks. The cinematography throws her off. I am not sure if I can describe it accurately. I mean it is kind of like you are standing on the set watching the movie play out as opposed to watching a movie. And actually her mother and I can see where she is coming from. But as far as I am concerned it is the bomb when it comes to watching sports. I feel like I am at the game. I love that part.

Does anyone know of a way where I can alternate between HD and SD at my leisure? Sorry to take up time and space with such a novice question.

EVGA Customer Support Rocks...I Am Now an EVGA Fanboy

Four score and seven years ago I posted a thread here on HDF called something like "for sale GTX 580, cheap" because I ordered a 680. Mase bought it off me.

Except Mase has no 580! It got lost or some shit in the mail. I've never had that happen before...I've mailed tons of stuff and never had a package go missing. But he didn't get it.

Well both Mase and myself got tired of fucking with the post office (TOTAL pain the ass...ask Mase if you don't believe me ) and I just went ahead getting the insurance money that I put on the 580 I sent Mase.

Now, the missing 580 I sold Mase is still under EVGA warranty. EVGA does not (should not??) do anything about cards lost in the mail. However, I have bought tons of EVGA graphics cards so I called them and told them the whole story.

My hope was to somehow get Mase a replacement 580. Mase is getting a 680 instead. :D

Maybe it's because I have bought 3 580's and one 680 in the past year or so, I dunno...but EVGA customer support let me "step up" (magical upgrade of some kind) the 580 to a 680.

I have had great experiences with EVGA in the past also - they replaced a 580 even though I clearly fried it myself.

At any rate, Mase gave me $250 GameStop money for a 580 and is getting a 680 instead. Because EVGA is a fucking great company. :)

EVGA has a customer for life in me.

Help Chosing Antenna for New Haven, CT

Hi everyone - I just moved into a new place, and Comcast quoted me $120 + for cable. So, I've decided to try OTA.
I've posted an image of the tvfool data as an attachment for the exact New Haven CT 06511 address. I'm on the 11th floor of an apartment building, and I am not allowed to secure an antenna out the window or balcony.

I've been thinking of getting a Clearstream 2, (they're about $40 on ebay) and buy separately the VHF reflector assembly ($20). I'd mount the antenna somewhere in the apartment where it would not be too obtrusive.

I plan to get a TIVO DVR or channelmaster.

Any recommendations for alternative antennas would be appreciated.

Sight beyond Sight, audio beyond sanity

Here is the background before the question.

A person, which we will call Bob. Has a sony sound bar model
HT-CT150. Is has HDMI Repeater, 3d pass through, ARC, standby passthrough of audio and video...etc etc etc.

Bob recently got it in his head he wanted speakers in other rooms AS WELL as in wall speakers to 'compliment' his sound bar. Of course the sound bar has no hook ups for external speakers. Nor does it have any aux audio outputs to hook up say, an amplifier.

My solution was to install a yamaha RX-V471 reciever, setup all the speakers, then loop the hdmi through the sound bar to the tv. So you're going bluray/satelite box into yamaha, out from yamaha into sony sound bar, out from sound bar into tv. I thought this feasable because of this exerpt from yamaha's FAQ:

Quote: Yes, All Yamaha HDMI compatible AV receivers can pass through HDMI audio signals. The factory default option allows the receiver to send audio signals coming through the HDMI inputs to the speaker terminals of the receiver. (With the exception of the HTR-6050, HTR-6130,HTR-6230, RX-V363 and the RX-V365 which only support HDMI audio video pass through.) The HDMI inputs only pass the video signal to the TV monitor. The Other option can be selected in HDMI SET in the receivers Manual Setup Menu. This will enable the receiver to pass the audio signal straight through to the TV. Please refer to the owners manual for specific details regarding the HDMI settings.

However once everything was in place there was, as you can guess, no sound. The speakers were fabulous the sound bar was as silent as a monk. The video passed through the loop just find. So my question. Am I reaching for the stars? Is there a reciever capable of doing what I demand? Is the yamaha one of those recievers but I just missed a setting? Is 42 the real meaning of life? I appreciate all the assistance I can get in this monster of a project. Thank you everyone who reply with a helpful comment.

Panasonic TC-P42UT50

Hi everyone, I am a total newbie to the plasma game. I just got my very first set (a Panasonic, as described in the thread title) two days ago, and I'm having some issues (hopefully simple and I'm just too much of a n00b to know how to fix them).

I fiddled around with some of the picture settings and haven't been able to solve the problems, so I reset everything to the factory setting. But, there are two issues that are already driving me nuts and I can't figure out how to fix them.

1. The picture keeps dimming and brightening like crazy when watching programs (or ads) that go from dark settings to light settings. I can't make this stop, and it makes watching sports (especially hockey) really difficult to watch.

2. The picture flickers like mad. It is especially bad while watching basketball for some reason. It makes it nearly impossible to watch.

I really hope these are unbelievably easy problems to solve, and I just don't have any experience in the plasma field as of yet. Beers to whoever solves this for me!

Thanks!

Bulletstorm Developers Are Making that New Gears of War

Link

Quote: Yesterday, I speculated that the next Gears of War, the one semi-revealed by the folks at Game Informer magazine, will be developed by the talented crew at People Can Fly who made the very good early 2011 first-person shooter Bulletstorm. I even teased People Can Fly creative director Adrian Chmielarz about it over Twitter. He didn't reply.

But, this morning, Mike Capps, president of Gears studio Epic Games (which owns People Can Fly) did his best Daniel Bryan impression and weighed in in the affirmative. Looks like they're "involved", and it's not a leap to assume they'll be doing more than helping out here or there. Very cool, but it makes you wonder... first-person Gears of War?

Orderd up the Disney WOW : World of Wonder blu ray set up disk, it got great reviews so should be interesting to see what that does, should offer some great test patterns using Cars, toy story and Pirates of the Carr.

Which TV should I buy (Need help from the experts)

I must admit, I am a complete rookie when it comes to buying TVs - I don't know whether I need 120Hz, or if I'll be fine with 60Hz. I don't know if LED is really worth the extra money, or if I'll be happy with an LCD. So I have to come to you experts, hoping you can help me figure this out.

I am moving into a new apartment and have decided it is time to upgrade from the embarrassingly old and small rear-projection TV I have been using since college. All I know is that I am looking for a decent flat-panel TV, at least 40" in screen size, and am working with a budge of about $700 at most. For the most part, I will be watching HDTV with a good mix of sports and regular programming in addition to occasion gaming with an XBOX 360. I will not have a blu-ray player, but will be watching DVDs through the XBOX at times.

I have been trying to do some research and recently went into a local Best Buy to try and see the different sets they offer. Here are some of the options that I thought stood out:
Sharp LC-46SV50U (46" LCD 1080p 60Hz) ~$629.99
Samsung LN40E550 (40" LCD 1080p 60Hz) ~ $499.99
Samsung LN40D630 (40" LCD 1080p 120Hz) ~ $679.99
LG 42CS570 (42" LCD 1080p 120Hz) ~ $599.99
Toshiba 40L5200U (40" LED 1080p 120Hz) ~ $599.99

Are any of these sets decent options and if so, which would you recommend?
Are there better options for my price point?
For my needs, will I be alright with 60Hz or should I still be looking for 120Hz?
What about other cheaper brands like RCA or Westinghouse? Are they sets to stay away from?

Comcast Digital Question & Caller ID

I just received a letter from Comcast that they are going all digital in my area. I have 2 RNG110 Receivers and 1 RNG200N DVR are these "Digital" receivers? In their letter they show a completely different piece of equipment that is considerably larger than these units.

Also I can get caller ID displayed on the DVR but not the other boxes (RNG110). Is it possible to display caller ID using those boxes?
